Nathalie Jean-Baptiste’s paintings are self-portraits as she captures human emotions (especially women’s) through her own experiences. Her art is like an open book of endless stories and possibilities.
Although interested in patterns and the multiplying subjects in Haitian paintings, she has an uncontrollable love for the art of One; that is art focusing on one subject. Nathalie is studying the art of Loneliness to focus the attention on just ONE. She creates a contrast; where her subject is the one with the patterns and colors; holding patches/pixels that marry one another and become ONE.
Her paintings hold only one subject. One who asks the audience their undivided focus/attention and perhaps turns itself into you. That is where a certain particularity, uniqueness, grace and beauty is born through the feeling of Loneliness and Attachment that comes with emotions and personal experiences. And just by irony, she balances this "sad" feeling with VIBRANT / BOLD colors.
Nathalie has recently completed her residency with the Guggenheim’s Learning Through Art program as she has a strong interest in Art Education and Management. She is now working on her future art exhibit that will be combining a collection of Women, personal experiences, symbols and patterns.
Her first children’s book “Trogon’s song of Hope” tries to educate on the existence of the endemic national bird of Haiti, the Hispaniolan Trogon.
She has spent the past 12 years in New York, painting, professionally framing and teaching art (certified). She has also held several exhibits.
