In Haiti, a Grandou is a big and strong kite made from humble, readily available materials but capable of becoming enormous in the sky. Here, ’Grandou’ is a meditation on liberation that comes without feeling the need to make yourself smaller, harder, or more guarded to survive. ‘Grandou’ represents women becoming… women being: liberated, confident in vulnerability, unafraid of softness, and unapologetic about the space they occupy. Like the kite she rises.
