Hand-carved block print | Ink on paper | 5"x7"
An anatomical heart, the real thing: chambered, textured, alive with complexity. Each section of this piece is filled with its own Zentangle pattern (dots, stripes, waves, a fan of radiating lines) a meditative drawing method built from small, deliberate, repeated marks. This piece came out of my premed studies, where I spent real time with the anatomy of the human heart and found myself in awe of it (not as a symbol, but as a structure). Four chambers, valves, vessels, each part doing specific work to keep something beating entirely on its own. Zentangle felt like the right language to sit with that complexity: shape by shape, mark by mark, the same patience the heart itself seems to hold.Once the drawing was finished, I hand-carved it into a block so it could exist beyond the page — pressed, inked, and shared. A real heart, given the same reverence usually reserved for the symbol.
